Here is a page about the New Bedford Bay Sox. Although they are not a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League, they are a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, a league similar to the CCBL in many ways. Here is a link to the official website of the New Bedford Bay Sox.

Here are some Pictures of the Paul F. Walsh Athletic Field. These were taken in 2009.

Comments on the Team and the Park

The makers of this site have been to hundreds of Cape League games, and one day in 2009 we took a very enjoyable road trip to nearby New Bedford to check out the "competition." This team belongs to another collegiate league, the NECBL. The league has a much shorter history than the Cape League, dating back to just 1993, but they have a broader geographical scope, with teams in all six New England states. As a result of our limited experience with the league, we don't have much to say, but we thought other Cape League fans might enjoy seeing the pictures we took at Paul F. Walsh Field, the home of the Bay Sox.

It's a good park for visibility, with big metal grandstands on both first and third base sides. Screens enclose the area behind the plate but do not extend far around the grandstands, so you get a good view from both grandstands.

One difference from the Cape League is that admission was charged, but at $5.00 one could hardly complain.

There were some light-hearted children's games staged between innings, such as some rather silly small races. The kids enjoyed themselves. It was a good sized crowd and it seems the team has an enthusiastic fan base among the local community.

We would recommend a trip to this lovely little park if you're looking for a road trip ... but come back to the Cape League afterwards.
